Essentials of Natural Resource Negotiation
With engaging new material, geared specifically to the challenges facing today’s natural resource professionals and managers. This course offers an online program designed to provide basic negotiation skills for agency personnel.
Essentials of Natural Resource Negotiation teaches how to be engaged and present in today’s 24-7 work environment when you are leading or supporting negotiations for your organization. Students taking this class should gain knowledge of the essential skills of negotiation. The focus of this 20 contact hour course is enhancing each individual’s skill through a combination of instructor presentations, exercises and roll play.
The course is presented over five consecutive days in a four-hour block each day using Zoom. Zoom may be accessed via the Internet and Zoom app is not required.
Enhanced Skills in Natural Resource Negotiation
Enhanced Skills in Natural Resource Negotiation teaches how to be be effective when leading complex, multi-party negotiations. Students taking this class should have knowledge of the essential skills of negotiation. The focus of this 20 contact hour course is enhancing each individual’s skill through practice.
This course uses direct instruction combined with doing. Subjects include Elements of Complex Negotiations, Ethics of Negotiation, Assessing Negotiating Power, Stakeholder Assessment, Team Dynamics, Bargaining for Operating Rules, Framing the Discussion, Giving Technical Direction, and Building and Using a Negotiation Strategy. Each of these subjects involves practice.

Enhanced Skills in Natural Resource Negotiation is a three-day seminar intended for professionals who are seeking to improve skills in multi-party negotiations. Through a combination of instruction and practice participants are able to improve their ability to bargain effectively in complex processes.
Negotiating in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Licensing and Relicensing is an on-site three-day seminar that focuses specifically on the multi-party process of licensing and re-licensing Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) projects. The first two days of the course provide basic multi-party negotiation skills and approaches, but with examples and case studies drawn from FERC cases. The third day is devoted to planning and conducting FERC licensing negotiations. This course is not offered in 2022.
